Just wanted to say thanks for a really remarkable evening of music. It's rare to find yourself in the presence of such gifted musicians, so in tune with each other. If you want to really understand what musicians mean when they say "tight", listen to these guys. The pocket is so secure that the soloists can wander off into some real explorations, and always find their way home again.
Add three guests to the mix, including Steve Waterman, and you had a masterclass in texture and arranging, with improv ranging from Waterman's silky lyricism to Kate Robertson's more staccato, syncopated, gutsy acrobatics.
Styles ranged from Metheny to blues with a truly generous heaping of Latin jazz, where the guitar comping, the pulsing bass and fireworks on the kit made for a groove that simply didn't let up.
I've seen a lot of jazz across England and the US. This was a first-class night on par with the best of them.
Thank you for a truly breath-taking evening’s entertainment.
Forty-odd years ago as a teenager I was lucky enough to go to a Stan Tracey Quartet session which helped fuel a lifetime’s passion for music.
Last week I was privileged to take my own teenage son to enjoy an equally heavyweight line-up of musicians in Third Stream and Steve Waterman.
He can’t fail to be inspired by your skills and energy.
Bravo and encore!
